Pump Controller

The Mercoid MPC Junior Pump Controller provides versatile level control in a standard 1/4 DIN package. Designed for use with almost any style level transmitter the unit displays the present level and main set point value. Incorporated in the MPC Jr. is programmable level differential for on/off control of one or two pumps, valves, or other devices through two SPDT relays. Also featured are two additional programmable alarm contacts with front alarm light indication.

The MPC Jr. is flexible and incorporates a user-friendly programming menu. The front face meets NEMA 4X for outdoor panel mounting.

Tuning Fork Level Switch


Series TFLS Tuning Fork Level Switch is ideal for level control of powders and fine grained solids, especially those with a low bulk density. The TFLS incorporates a piezoelectric crystal that vibrates the fork at its natural frequency. When the fork comes in contact with material, the vibration is dampened and the switch changes state. As the fork becomes free of material, the switch changes back to its normal state. Featured in the TFLS is user-selectable fail-safe operation of the contacts. Unit is not affected by vibration from conveying systems, motors, or the movement of material. It can be mounted in any position and is available with factory built extensions for mounting on the top of the storage vessel.

Series TFLS is easy to use, with no calibration required and with no mechanical moving parts there is no routine maintenance required. The TFLS is unaffected by the dielectric constant of the sensed material, making it superior to a capacitance level switch for applications where the dielectric constant is too low, where there is more than one material being used in one vessel, and when material moisture content can change. The level switch is also good for applications when the bulk density is too low for a rotating paddle level switch. It can also detect granular material submerged in liquids of low viscosity, for example sand, gravel, or polyester chips in water.

The Series CRF2 is a level transmitter providing a two-wire 4 to 20 mA output to indicate level of liquids, powders and bulk materials. State of the art sensing technology in the CRF2, using impulse RF admittance measurement provides excellent accuracy and stability. The CRF2 senses capacitance changes resulting from the height of the material in the tank between the probe and the tank wall. Series CLP Conductivity Level Probes are used to determine the presence of a conductive liquid at a set level by sensing conductivity. The Series CLP is coupled with the Series TSWB Temperature Level Controller for a complete level control system. Electric Bin Vibrator

The Series EBV Electric Bin Vibrator incorporates adjustable force features without creating irritating noise. The low amperage draw at 120V reduces power consumption and makes the vibrators usable in any application. The EBV eliminates drawbacks associated with non-adjustable constant force units. The conventional fix force units are sized with narrow operating limits and may not move material from bins or pack material in containers if the moisture content changes. The adjustable force feature increases application flexibility; reducing equipment downtime and labor expense. Installation:

  • Before installation, especially if the apparatus has been stored in the warehouse, remove the side covers from the weights and check to make sure the shaft turns freely.
  • The EBV electric vibrator can be installed in any position. Fix the electric vibrator on a rigid area to avoid induced vibrations causing breakage or cracks; if this is not possible, use plates and ribbing for reinforcement.
  • The mounting surface must be level (max 0.25 mm/ max 0.01 in) so that the vibrator feet rest uniformly and perfectly in contact with the mounting surface, to avoid internal stresses which can lead to breakage of the vibrator feett.
  • To mount the electric vibrator, use bolts, nuts and flat washers.
  • Remember that most breakdowns are due to incorrect mounting.
  • Anchor the electric vibrator using a chain with a length and cross section suitable for supporting the electric vibrator with a maximum fall of 15 cm (6 inches), in case of accidental detachment.

Before carrying out any maintenance or cleaning on the machine, make sure the conditions are safe.

Paddle Level Switch

Incorporated in the design of the PLS is a magnetic drive that is time proven by decades of use in our Mark Series valve position indicator product line. A 1 rpm synchronous motor rotates the paddle, utilizing a magnetic drive. As product builds up, the paddle is impeded from moving and the resulting motor torque activates the output switches and stops the motor. A spring mechanism reactivates the motor and returns the switches to normal state when the product no longer impedes the paddle rotation.

 

Standard construction is weatherproof with explosion-proof optional, and the unit can be side or top mounted. The PLS is designed with the industry standard 1-1/4″ male NPT connection and mounting flanges..

Piston Vibrator

Series APV-C Piston Vibrators are air cushioned to provide low noise. This makes it suitable for quiet area applications. It is a good solution to prevent clogs on tank walls and material delivery problems. It can also be applied on vibrating separators and conveyors.

 

Working Principle APV-C:
There are air-breathing tubes located in both ends of the cylinder. Compressed air pushes the piston from one side to the other side. Vibration power arises as the piston moves back and forth in the body. Air cushion at both ends produced by the to-and-fro compression will keep the piston from striking the body. Therefore, the piston will not produce much noise.

Series APV-I impact version piston vibrators can help to get rid of dust or material accumulated inside of pipes or tanks. It allows direct impact on the tank with low specific gravity and high moisture materials inside. It also helps prevent material build-up, pipe clogs, and rust.

One of our most versatile level controls, the Series 190 can be used on all types of tank or sump level control applications.

Mercoid® Displacer Controls use displacers that do not float on the surface of liquids, but are suspended on a coil spring. They work on the principle that submerged solids weigh less in liquids, and as the liquid level rises and their weight decreases, the tension on the spring by which they are suspended is decreased. Because they work on a different principle than float type liquid level controls, displacers are not affected by turbulence or pressure, and are excellent for applications with viscous or dirty liquids.

PBLT2 and PBLTX Submersible Level Transmitters are manufactured for years of trouble free service in the harshest applications. Both measure the height of liquid above the position in the tank referenced to atmospheric pressure. The transmitter consists of a piezoresistive sensing element, encased in a 316 SS housing. Tilt Switch Probe

The Series LTS Tilt Switch probes are able to sense either the presence or absence of material when other sensors won’t work due to bin vibration, or actual walls aren’t available for mounting other types of measuring units. The probes are designed for use where the bulk material to be sensed is exposed or open. Typical applications include high or low level detection in large hoppers, silos, crushers, or trippers, high level control under stackers, and detection of plugged conditions at conveyor transfer points. Series LTS probes can also be used to detect the presence or absence of bulk material on belt conveyors, on chutes to indicate product flow, and to aid in loading rail cars or trucks.

 

All probe models are airtight, dust tight, and waterproof. The compact probe should be used for applications involving small bins and hoppers where space is limited, while the heavy duty probe should be used for applications where a heavy duty abrasion-resistant probe is necessary.

Probe Installation:
The probe should be suspended using a fixed support, such as a mounting bracket or S-hook, at a position where it will easily intercept the bulk material at the desired indication point. There must be a free flow of material both to and away from the probe. In some installations, it is necessary to install a baffle or shield above the probe assembly to protect it from product surges.

Wiring:
All wiring should be in compliance with applicable Local, Federal, and State codes. Probe connection cable is 16-3 type SO and is attached to the probe. Probe cable length is supplied as specified per order, and may be spliced.

Operating Principle:
Ultrasound is sound with a frequency greater than the upper limit of human hearing; approximately 20 kilohertz. The ULT contains an ultrasonic transducer and a temperature sensing element. The ultrasonic transducer transmits ultrasound wave pulses through air directed towards the material of which the level is desired. The ultrasound waves then reflect off of the material as an echo and travel back to the transducer. The level of the material is determined by the transit time of the ultrasound wave pulse from the sensor to material and for the echo to come back to the sensor. The speed of sound through air is sensitive to the air temperature. The ULT uses the temperature sensing element to compensate for air temperature changes. 

The ULT incorporates patented surface processing technology and adaptive signal processing. Surface processing technology filters out all signal obstructions that may be in the tank creating an effecting beam diameter of only 3 ̋ (7.6 cm).

Vibrating Rod Level Switch
The Model VRLS Vibrating Rod Level Switch is an economical choice in level detection of powders and bulk solids. The VRLS utilizes a piezoelectric crystal that vibrates the rod at a natural frequency. Once the rod comes in contact with the material, the vibration will be dampened and the switch will change state. Once the rod is uncovered by the material, the switch will revert to its normal state. Perfect for silo or hopper applications, its probe design allows for self-cleaning, ensuring no build-up or bridging of material and accurate detection. Sensitivity is adjustable for detection ranging from large granular material to small powders with low bulk densities. The failsafe mode can be set for failure on high level or failure on low level using a selector switch in the enclosure.

Installation:

  • When installing VRLS, the following should be noted.


Top Mounting:

  • Avoid installing directly under substance inlet to prevent damage to the probe.
  • Angle of mounting should be taken into consideration during installation to prevent false alarm.


Side Mounting:

  • It is highly recommended to use a shield to protect the vibrating probe level switch. The cover should be parallel to the probe and of the same length.
  • Incline the device at approximately 20 degrees when installing. Keep conduit facing downward to prevent moisture from getting inside the housing while in operation.
  • All wiring should employ 18 AWG cable.

Water Leak Detector

The very affordable Series WD2 detects leaking conductive fluids and alarms to prevent the leak from creating costly damage. The WD2 relies on the electrical conductivity of water to change the resistance across the two contacts located at the base of the enclosure. Model WD2-BP2 is battery powered, provides audible alarm, LED visual alarm, and a SSR output. Also featured is a low battery warning. WD2-LP units are line powered and include a green power indication LED. 

Mounting bracket A-154 is perfect for use in leak pans where it is desired to raise the sensing level above the bottom of the pan to eliminate nuisance alarms. The bracket can be mounted to the bottom of the pan and the height of the WD2 adjusted anywhere up to 1.75 ¿¿ (44.5 mm). Or the bracket can be used to mount the WD2 to the side of the drip pan or any side wall at desired height.

Operation:
Model WD2-BP2 is battery powered, provides audible alarm, red LED visual alarm, and a SSR output. When conductive fluid is detected, the audible alarm will turn on for 10 seconds followed by a 30 second visual alarm repeated until the unit no longer detects fluid. The SSR will change state from open to closed. When the battery gets low the WD2 gives a warning by turning on the visual and audio alarms.
WD2-LP units require an 11 to 27 VAC/DC power supply. A green power LED illuminates when the unit has power. WD2-LP units provide audible alarm, red LED visual alarm, and either a SPDT or DPDT output. When conductive fluid is detected, the audible alarm and visual alarm will turn on and stay on. The relay will change state with open contacts going to closed and closed contacts going to open.

Mounting:
The unit is made to place on a horizontal surface where leaking fluid can build up.

Place the “U” bracket on the top of the WD2 and line up the holes in the bracket with those in the body. The A-154 includes longer body screws that are used to now screw down both the bracket and the body top. The “U” bracket can be mounted in the up or down orientation but it must be mounted “down” to reach the full 1.75 ¿¿ height potential.

The SERIES OLS Optical Level Switches are a low cost, rugged optical level switch that indicates the presence or absence of liquid via infrared light that is reflected back through the prism lens. It also provides rapid response while employing no moving parts for stable process control. The bright red and green LED’s indicate the presence or absence of liquid for true, local indication. Three optional materials, 316 SS, polysulfone and PFA provide application flexibility. Compact switch can be quickly mounted horizontally or vertically for each installation.

Principles Of Operation:
The optical level switch employs an LED, which transmits infrared light. This light is sent through a prism and reflected back to a photo-transistor utilizing two 90° light reflections. With the prism surrounded by a gas, the light source is cast back to the photo-transistor. When a translucent liquid is introduced to the prism at or above the point where the light source makes contact with the prism, the light is reflected into the liquid, not allowing the photo-transistor to energize.

Installation:

  • Carefully unpack switch and remove any packing material from unit. Prism surface must be clean for proper operation.
  • Level Switch may be installed in any position. NOTE: Do not install near infrared light sources.
  • Prism surface must be at least 2″ from any reflective surfaces.
  • Apply thread tape or sealant to 1/2″ male NPT thread. To prevent damage to threads, avoid overtightening.
  • Connect (+) 10-28 VDC power to red lead; return (-) to black lead. CAUTION: Do not connect output to supply.
  • Inspect and clean lens at regular intervals. Level switch not recommended for use with liquids that leave deposits.

Cable Float Switch

Control the level of liquids in filling or draining reservoirs and tanks with the Series CFS. The mercury-free switch is designed  with  an  inverter  microswitch  housed  in  a polypropylene cover. The unit includes a counterweight to adjust the stop and start levels of pump up/pump down
application.

Installation Instructions:
The installation is very easy by holding the cable with a small clamp  in  the  reservoir  or  container.  By  fixing  the counterweight to the cable, at a closer or farther from position float, the desired differential between the highest and lowest level can be freely adjusted. Several differentials between levels, against counterweight-to-float distance are given:

Installation of Counterweight:

  • Insert the cable in the counterweight, from the conical part and rotate it, thus causing the plastic ring inserted in
  • the opening to become detached (if necessary this operation can be facilitated with the use of a screwdriver). The ring should then be positioned in the point where it is desired to block the counterweight.
  • Force the counterweight on the ring by rotating it, using a slight pressure.
  • If the counterweight position is to be changed, the counterweight should be retracted, the ring position changed and secured once again.
